Mothers Unite To Protect Human Rights and Dignity (#momsresolutions)

Moms United to End the War on Drugs Announces Re-launch of Resolutions for the New Year

Despite some gains in the adoption of harm reduction strategies to address the opioid overdose crisis, we have a long journey ahead in ending the destructive war on drugs, which is waged against people and the nation’s longest running civil war. The Trump administration is escalating the drug war and threatens to decimate gains made over the past decades in drug policy, a woman’s right to choose, immigrant rights, LGBT rights, and the fight against racial injustice.

Therefore, A New PATH (Parents for Addiction Treatment & Healing) and Moms United to End the War on Drugs are re-launching our #momsresolutions campaign for the New Year, detailing how we will resist all attempts to escalate the war on drugs and defend human rights, dignity and equality. In 2026 we renew our resolve to end the drug war as well as addressing a host of social justice issues. Harm reduction saves lives, and we invite you to join us in our efforts to protect these lifesaving policies.

“Silence creates a form of acceptance, so as individuals and family members we must speak out for tolerance and equality,” said Gretchen Burns Bergman, Co-Founder and Executive Director of A New PATH and Lead Organizer of Moms United to End the War on Drugs. “If we hesitate and fail to protect the rights of our neighbors, who may be easier targets, and look away in a self-protective stance, we will have lost our humanity, and in the process, evil will have won over good. I believe it is my job as a parent to stand tall as a beacon of hope, and to advocate constantly and consistently to promote peace and tolerance, particularly when times are tough and we fear that we no longer have a voice. Now more than ever, we need to work in coalition and with respect for one another, and make our voices heard.”

Moms United is vigilant in protecting humane and life-affirming policies, and in resisting all forms of hatred and bigotry. From January 1-7, 2026, Moms United will use social media to announce #momsresolutions:

  1. Moms will increase efforts to DISMANTLE the War on Drugs

  2. Moms will RESIST all forms of prejudice and bigotry

  3. Moms will PROTECT the rights and dignity of all people

  4. Moms will peacefully PROTEST racism, sexism, misogyny, homophobia and xenophobia

  5. Moms will steadfastly PROMOTE peace and tolerance in the face of hatred

  6. Moms will continue to FIGHT against mass incarceration

  7. Moms will be vigilant in DEFENDING our values and principles

Moms United to End the War on Drugs is a global campaign to end the violence, mass incarceration and accidental overdose deaths that are a result of punitive and discriminatory drug policies. We are building a movement to stop the stigmatization and criminalization of people who use drugs or who are addicted to drugs. Moms United is a project of A New PATH, a 26-year-old nonprofit organization that works to reduce the stigma associated with addictive illness through education and compassionate support, and to advocate for therapeutic rather than punitive drug policies.
